I'm looking for someone to tune my piano. Does anyone have a recommendation for me? Do any of you do this thing? [livejournal.com profile] pied_piper70? Would it be reasonable or unreasonable for me to attempt to learn to do it myself?

I'll also be looking for someone to fix a crack in the soundboard. Who can give me a solid recommendation for a piano repair person/shop?

Actually, it's not something you want to try to do yourself unless you've been trained...Each keys has three strings (except the bass notes), and tuning a piano involves getting all three strings just slightly out of tune so that, to our ears, it's all actually "in tune" or well-tempered...Doing so requires some training...

In any case, I have no leads on a piano tuner but I see ads all the time...You could ask Groth Music or even Schmidt Music who they'd recommend...but I'd go for [livejournal.com profile] mizzlaurajean's suggestion first...
