I'm looking for someone to tune my piano. Does anyone have a recommendation for me? Do any of you do this thing? [livejournal.com profile] pied_piper70? Would it be reasonable or unreasonable for me to attempt to learn to do it myself?

I'll also be looking for someone to fix a crack in the soundboard. Who can give me a solid recommendation for a piano repair person/shop?

Shoot! I was going to recommend the guy who tuned my piano, but I don't have his number. Scott doesn't do that, but he may know someone. If you want to do it yourself, you need at least minimal equipement. Doesn't seem too hard if you have good pitch.

Actually, it's not something you want to try to do yourself unless you've been trained...Each keys has three strings (except the bass notes), and tuning a piano involves getting all three strings just slightly out of tune so that, to our ears, it's all actually "in tune" or well-tempered...Doing so requires some training...

In any case, I have no leads on a piano tuner but I see ads all the time...You could ask Groth Music or even Schmidt Music who they'd recommend...but I'd go for [livejournal.com profile] mizzlaurajean's suggestion first...
