For [livejournal.com profile] drakemonger: the hotel has a free shuttle from the Mall of America, which is eminently busable. I would try calling the hotel to find out about shuttle frequency, if I were you.

I am getting so sick of being half-sick I could scream. What is up with this nonsense?

In better news, I now have a new soundtrack to my life: a loud and constant purring.

Hmm, the term "country-punk" brings to mind an image of folks in overalls and facial piercings raging about the lack (or overabundance) or rain... but that is likely more illustrative of my upbringing than the musical genre. I'd be interested in hearing more, but am somewhat hesitant to do a search on "X". Are there other groups that would be somewhat representative?

Regarding the timing and transportation tomorrow, I anticipate that the con timing will be quite lax. It's been fairly dead today, and there is practically no programming tomorrow. So I should be generally available. If transportation is needed, I have a car that is doing nothing but being red (and white, since the storm), so it would be available for shuttling. Odds are though, that it would need some help getting where it needs to, so addresses would be helpful.

If you get here (or desire assistance getting here), drop me a line or text - 515.779.3147 - as I'd prefer not to miss a sushi opportunity.

Yes, my April excuse for visiting the cities is Applecon. Those plans have not yet gelled, but I am sure that I'll have specific plans set in a few weeks.

Oh, and since I forgot to answer you on Sunday:

Country-punk, otherwise known as alt-punk, insurgent country, or (my favorite) honky-skronk, is a 21st-century outgrowth of "American" roots music, from country to blues to Appalachian to gospel and beyond. It embraces the concept of homemade, working class song and renounces the pop-country machine. It adores Hank Williams, ignores his son, and approves of his grandson.

Bloodshot Records is a premier genre label; I think they coined the term "insurgent country."

I would be delighted to share some of my recordings with you if you're interested.

(Of course, by now you've probably looked it up and have a totally different answer. I didn't bother looking it up, but I think I will now.)

Hmm, that sounds quite interesting. If it's convenient, I think that I will take you up on that offer come Applecon-time.

Out of curiosity, would Ridley Bent fall under this, or is he too "out there" for even this designation?

(And as much as I would like to look it up, I don't think I shall. I'd rather discover the genre through personal introduction rather than impersonal marketing.)
