BTW, did you ever find a liaison for the ghost of Douglas Adams?
I got to meet him back when I was a teenager, after I'd just read the Hitchhiker's books for the first time. I imagine he would have liked the idea of a ghostly visit to an SF convention, if only it weren't predicated on an untimely death.
I have not yet found one, though everyone seems to like the idea plenty. Some tech crew types are brainstorming possible special effects to utilize, though!
I actually did this at DemiCon a few years back. Since I was running the music room, I had access to the sound system. I set up a dead mic in the middle of the stage, and played some recordings of Douglas Adams reading from his books and just generally talking.
His readings from Last Chance to See were particularly hilarious.
The same model worked well for some recordings I have of Tolkien.
I don't know what convention you're working on, but if you need the mp3s, I can likely get them to you (since you seem to friends with friends of mine, and I seriously doubt that the ghosts of honor would object).
