I feel that way about nickels too. Dimes are great, really high value for space.

If we made quarters nickel sized, the the dollar coins - quarter - dime size progression would make sense, and we could ditch nickels entirely.

Pennies we'd have to keep to pay for stadium taxes & stuff, no doubt. Those pesky .5% taxes would likely keep the odd fractions in play.

I've always been disproportionately fond of dimes. Frex, If I were a dragon I'd rather recline on a pile of dimes than a pile of quarters. Of course, if they made something the size and shape of dimes in gold I'd rather lie on that, but I do like the shininess of silver more than that of nickel.

They should make nickels our of those colored metals they're using to make some jewelry wires these days. Purple, blue, pink, green - I could get into nickels like that.

I also find nickles less useful then dimes or pennies.

And might I add I'm glad our dollar bills are paper and not coins like in Europe. One of the very few things I like better in America.

Just imagine the posters poping up all around town.

"Nickel's are heavy!"

"Ban the nickel"

"Lighten up & get rid of the nickel"

"Loose change causing holes in your pockets,
Vote for change, Write your politicians and
Ban the damn nickel"

Plus the headlines in the paper. "Govenor Pawlenty signs bill banning the country's bulky worthless nickel"

Maybe it would increase sales for the strib.
