Dec. 22 - Japanese researchers catch on camera the first live captured giant squid.

The Japanese scientists caught the big reddish animal during a study on habitats in the deep sea.

Thanks for the heads up! I was amazed at the grainy still-shots they got last year, and what they just came up with blows away 100 years of 'conventional thinking' about the beasties. Upset that they managed to kill the poor thing, but not overly surprised...great news on the population projections too =)
