Went to replace sash cords yesterday only to discover that the piece of the window frame that ought to hold the pulley for the lower sash is rotted out. C'est la vie. I think I saw the pulley lying in the back of a cabinet; at the time I didn't register what it was. I'll have to try to dig it up again.

Also, at some point in the semi-distant past, someone took a reciprocating saw or a pruning saw or something of the sort and hacked roughly away at the windowsill. I suppose that was when the bathroom was tiny; they must've been trying to cram a shelf or something in next to the commode. Even so, what could possibly possess a person to take a saw to his home's decorative woodwork?

Anyway, I'm not up to experimenting with this kind of carpentry, not just yet.

Fortunately, Ed has graciously consented to come by and take a look.

You apparently used up all your home repair points on the vacuum. You've got to rest, relax and read (RR&R) to regain (+R) them.

It would be easier to just Refresh them at the next encounter.

But considerably less enjoyable.

Wasn't the vacuum supposed to explode in a shower a little fuzzy sparkly balls, which she was supposed to run around and pick up?

No, the vacuum was supposed to «b>emit a shower of little fuzzy sparkly balls, preferably at random but humorously-timed intervals. (And at times when distraction would not cause injury or damage.) That way, the vacuum may retain its functionality.

Also, it's the job of the kittens to run around and pick up little fuzzy sparkly balls. Really, it's in their contract.

So we aren't in Lego House Wars?

My kittens seem to ignore their contracts.

I'm not sure what "Lego House Wars" means (and Google doesn't make it immediately clear).

So far as your kittens ignoring their contracts go, I'm surprised. I've never seen a problem with kittens fulfilling their contracts. Are you sure that they're written appropriately?

Remember the rules of kitten contract writing:

1) The humans are required to do everything that isn't fun (clean the litter box, replace anything damaged, pay for medical bills)

2) The kittens are only required to do fun things (play with little fuzzy sparkly balls, purr, look cute sitting in the sunlight)

3) The contract has to be wholly unbalanced in favor of the kittens (measured with the simple metric of "you scritch my back, I'll scratch yours")

4) Kittens get rewarded for being cute, even it's contractually required.

If your kittens are ignoring their responsibilities, perhaps it's because you're ignoring yours. :)

Lego Star Wars is a game where things you shoot tend to explode into little fuzzy sparkly balls that you run around collecting.

They do not agree that their contract involves picking up anything. That might be too much like work. They get to play soccer with it all, though.

It could be that they are too old to have "pick things up while playing with them" in their contracts any more. I should reread.

Apparently you were right; I had some enforced R&R with the kittens tonight, and I predict more for the next 4 days, judging by weather reports. (You know how Shadow goes crazy when I leave the house? Same deal when I leave the air conditioned room now.)

Methinks we had the folk festival on the wrong weekend.

Ah well, at least you have a nice stack of books to read while you're trapped in a cool room with cool kittens.
