The United Way has a truly amazing savings program, called "Start Saving", available to those who qualify:

What is Start Saving?
Start Saving is a matched savings program to help you buy your first house, pay for your family’s education or start a business.

Am I eligible?
Yes, if:
a) You are 18 years or older
b) You are a resident of Minnesota
c) Your family’s income is at or
below this amount:

  • 1 person - $19,600

  • 2 people - $26,400

  • 3 people - $33,200

  • 4 people - $40,000



What do I have to do?

  • Save $40 per month in a special savings account, called an individual development account. An additional $120 will be set aside for you each month.

  • Enroll in financial education classes to learn how to reduce your debt, repair your credit and meet your savings goals.

  • Meet with a coach for support to meet your goals.
