Can anyone help me find a good general contractor in the area?

I'm trying to sell a house that currently needs a lot of work, and I want to get estimates on the various projects so as to decide which ones to complete to maximize ROI (and minimize headaches). I already have a hardwood floor guy, and I'll do the painting and most patching myself; I'm talking about ceiling repair, plumbing, door frame replacement, woodwork refinishing, appliance installation, tile, carpeting, maybe windows, and possibly a bit of framing demolition and reconstruction.

Normally my highest priority would be quality, but given my objective here, I'm primarily looking for competitive pricing. (That said, if this same contractor would later have the capability to completely redo a bathroom for a very picky client, all the better.) Timing is not of particular concern, I'm flexible there.

Any leads would be greatly appreciated!

Your floor guy might know someone who does tile.

Karen's brother Ed does woodwork of any kind near as I can tell he's curently drawing up plans for our study. I can dig up his number.

Where ever you buy the appliances should install them when they deliver them, there may be a fee but I'm sure it's well worth it.

We've used a few different plumbing people but we were happiest with Soderlin despite their imperfect record.

Framing demolision and reconstruction most realitors would tell you not to bother with this the cost is likely more then the return. Especially with the current market, very slow.

I have copy's of last years "Angie's List,"
If you'd like to take a look through them it lists all different kinds of contrators that people have been happy with.

Not my house, Mum's house

I'm selling Mum's house down on 36th. Remember that one? It's been a while.

The demo/framing that I'm looking at would add a bathroom, otherwise I would agree that I should skip it. But a 3-plus bedroom, 2-bath house is SO much more desirable than a 1-bath that I think it may be worthwhile. Can't know until I get an estimate, I suspect.

You "Angie's List" leads would be great, as would getting Ed's number! I'll get in touch with you directly for this stuff.

Thanks for the help!

And if anyone else has personal favorite contractors, please chime in.

I'll second the Soderlin vote for plumbers. I have not had any issues with them and they seem to be efficient.

My friend [livejournal.com profile] jschmidt had really good luck with Siccorra (sp?) for their kitchen remodel.
