I'm replacing my desktop's 80GB internal HD because I need more capacity.

Do I spend $80 on a 320GB, or $110 on a 500GB? Both are 7200RPM with 16MB cache and similar latency. The 500GB has slightly better seek spec, but this is negligible.

The question, really, is this: will I have 320GB worth of files before I replace my computer? (There's no chance of using this HD in the hypothetical new system, as I'm currently IDE and will go to SATA or SCSI.)

Hmm. Yeah, I prolly will. I've been talking about upgrading for the last 2 years now and haven't wanted to spend the money. Sigh.

Anyone?

Oh, and as to that soul-searching thing - I had a dream last night:

I was wandering around, going about my business in a perfectly normal way. Then I reached up and took off my wig.

For decades I thought that my most distinctive physical characteristic was a part of me, all natural and all mine. Now, suddenly, it was the most ordinary thing in the world to be removing it to uncover a sleek chestnut ponytail.

Classic symbolism. I would've expected better from myself. :)

Art Cars!

I decided to do my errands on foot today. I wandered down to Dreamhaven, taking my favorite route through Vera's garden.

I bought many books, including the first 4 "Girl Genius" collections (thank you for the new addiction, [livejournal.com profile] lollardfish) and "Deathly Hallows". The sidewalk along that stretch of Lake Street is completely torn up, but the businesses are still accessible to anyone not wearing stiletto heels.

And speaking of shoes, Heavenly Soles is having a big sale, which is great. I didn't find what I was looking for there, which is not.

On the way home, I saw a crowd gathering and (contrary to my usual reaction) veered toward it. Got myself a nice seat for the Art Car parade. [livejournal.com profile] mizzlaurajean would have liked the Tiki-Bar bike.

I was a bit surprised to see a drunken Dick Cheney (puppet) swaggering down the street, threatening to shoot us all with an oversized hunting rifle. I was truly delighted when the honorable R.T. Rybak rode up on his bicycle and began inciting the crowd to chant "PEACE NOW" until Cheney collapsed.

I liked our mayor before. Now I lurv him.

I'm going to have to start carrying my camera.

Hmm. Thank you for the comments on my hard drive post. Rather than making the same reply to each of them, I thought I would put it here: )
