Confluence
May. 20th, 2007 10:41 pmSometime around noon today, I heard sirens, apparently from fire trucks. This is not at all unusual, as I live within 1/4 mile of a fire station. Then I heard more sirens (police, ambulance). And more, and more, and MORE, for the next 15 minutes. I wondered what was going on, considered camping the website of one of the local news programs, and then got distracted by something and forgot all about it.
And then this afternoon
chesh, who lives near me, posted this, and the mystery was solved, sooner than I could've found anything out by scanning for news.
Later,
omaha made this post, noting that another lj friend of his lives in the building in question.
And now I'm pondering the physical proximity of all of us, and thinking how interesting it is that the internet, with its great strength at negating tremendous distances, is keeping me informed about things that I would previously have strolled down the street to find out about.
