As is usually the way of these things, having announced that I won't be reading LJ for a bit I find myself in desperate need of your opinions:

What songs shall I learn to play/sing for purposes of music partying? What would you like to sing along to? (Please don't throw rotten tomatoes at your monitors; it won't do anyone any good.)

This morning the kittens called for their breakfast in a perfect fifth harmonic interval (F#, I think).

Shadow is the soprano, Dylan the alto. (Yeah, I know they're boys, but I suspect it works differently for cats.)

I'm looking for someone to tune my piano. Does anyone have a recommendation for me? Do any of you do this thing? [livejournal.com profile] pied_piper70? Would it be reasonable or unreasonable for me to attempt to learn to do it myself?

I'll also be looking for someone to fix a crack in the soundboard. Who can give me a solid recommendation for a piano repair person/shop?

Any Crowded House fans out there?

I have two tickets to the Crowded House / Pete Yorn show this Sunday, 9/9. Sadly, the owner of said tickets will be on the East Coast when the show takes place. He would love to sell them, but will settle for giving them away to someone who will go and appreciate the show.

Any takers? Please be prepared to come get them from me in Minneapolis.

Date: Sunday, 9 September
Time: 7:30 p.m.
Place: Orpheum Theater, Minneapolis
Seats: Balcony Aisle 8, Row D

I must figure out how to be extremely effective in a way that allows me more free time. I've worked nearly 14 hours today and it's too much. And I need to get up and do it again in 5 hours.

Work isn't usually this bad, but I suspect that it will start to be if I don't figure out how to quash it. Today I refused 3 meetings, saying that they just weren't my top priorities. I suppose that's one way to start. I'm amazingly efficient with my e-mail now. The days that really kill me are the ones like today where I'm booked into participatory meetings for 8 or 9 hours.

At least I got to meet with the realtor today. Lots of people seem interested in the possibility of buying this house; that's always good. I wonder if they want to pay me as much for it as I'd like them to?

These questions and more will be answered if I can be bothered to wake up tomorrow.

Oh, the Son Volt show last night was fabulous - they were incredibly tight as always. I'm so lucky to get to hear so much amazing live music.

Yay! I got a letter yesterday saying that I was accepted into the State Services for the Blind "Radio Talking Book" and "Tape Textbook" programs. They will be contacting me within the next two weeks with my first assignment.

This means that I get to simultaneously 1) read aloud (which I really enjoy doing), 2) be exposed to books about subject matter that is new to me and that I might not have chosen myself, and (most important) 3) make this material available to people who wouldn't otherwise have access to it.

How cool is that?

I'm pretty jazzed. Also, last night's Neko Case show was a lot of fun.

Son Volt is coming to First Ave. tomorrow. There are still tickets left. I'm going with a group of 5 people; we'll be meeting up for a drink before the show and would welcome others who want to drop in.

Right up until this evening I thought that I was going to make it to the music party, but I'm afraid that I'm just not. :(

I'm sure that a wonderful time is being had by all, and I hate to miss it.

EDITED TO ADD: Um, looks like [livejournal.com profile] buttonlass has made a liar of me. Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] buttonlass! I had a great time!

For [livejournal.com profile] minnehaha B. and whomever else is interested:

Here are the performances that I expect to be attending in the next little-while:
  • Tonight: The Sadies, 7th St. Entry
  • 10/16: Ian Anderson, Fitzgerald
  • 10/18: Dresden Dolls, First Ave.
  • 10/29: Indigo Girls, State
  • 11/18: Leo Kottke, State

I'm trying to make up my mind whether I ought to hear the Wailin' Jennys on 10/20 at the O'Shaugnessy. Looks as though good seats are still available.

Things are looking a little barren over the next couple of weeks, so if anyone hears of something interesting, please let me know.

Music Publishers' Associations are contending that it is illegal to publish individuals' written interpretations of songs (e.g. tablature).

I'm really curious as to what my artistic friends think about this.

I know that I have made extensive use of free online tab myself in the past; it tends to be how I learn to play new chords and new songs. Of course, if published sheet music is available it is preferable, being more accurate, but most of the tab I use is for songs for which it's *not* available.

(In some cases I even pester my favorite musicians about when they will be releasing their long-awaited songbooks, but it hasn't availed me anything yet, now has it, Stephen?)

K, sorry about the premature posting a few days ago. You should now actually be able to buy Dresden Dolls tickets via the First Avenue website.

Aimee Mann is coming to the Minnesota Zoo amphitheater (great venue) on June 23. Indigo Girls will be there July 12. Tickets for both events go on sale at 10:00 a.m. this Wednesday. I expect I'll go to both.

Dar Williams and Susan Tedeschi will also be playing there this summer, along with several other notables. The Zoo sometimes allows men to play, too. :)

Thanks to everyone for your kind words after my burglary. I'm pretty much okay with things; I had already lived through one break-in when this one happened, and (truth be told) was expecting another sooner or later.

As [livejournal.com profile] madtruk observed, "Things are things." Even so, there was a short list of things that I hoped wouldn't be disturbed; amazingly, they weren't. In addition the idiots were remarkably gentle on what they left behind; I haven't discovered any damage yet.

The rest is probably only of interest to Nate )

Here's where I'm going to be during the evenings this weekend; I'd love to see any or all of you at any or all of these:

Friday: Fine Line Cafe for the Gogol Bordello show

Saturday: Old Man River Cafe to hear Dee Duckwell & Brother Seamus

Sunday: Grumpy's Bar (downtown) for friends and conversation.
